NUJ mourns retired Deputy Director of Radio Niger

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Niger State Council, has expressed sadness over the demise of retired Deputy Director, News of Radio Niger, Mr Sunday Abraham, saying his death was not only a loss to the family, Radio Niger, but the entire media industry.

Mr. Abraham died  at his residence in Maikunkele, Bosso Local Government Area of the state.

In a condolence message signed by the State Secretary of NUJ, Comrade Usman Muhammad Chiji, the council described late Abraham as one of the finest, experienced and committed journalists, who mentored many to become professionals in the media sector.

According to him, Mr Sunday Abraham died at a time his services were mostly needed in the area of mentoring young journalists for better performance as entrenched in the four thematic areas of the present leadership of NUJ in the state.

It explained that, in his days as Head of Department, News, no bulletin will be aired without an in-depth proof reading by him to check possible grammatical errors.

Chiji also described Abraham as a reference point not only for the staff of Radio Niger, but even beyond.

According to the statement, “the deceased was a jovial, down to earth, sincere and honest individual who never nursed grudges against anyone.

“The vacuum created by the death of Mr Sunday Abraham will be hard to fill, in view of his avowed commitment to professionalism, growth and progress of Radio Niger chapel of NUJ, and the organization in general.”

It stated, “as the council joins others in mourning the death of one of its own, it hopes that his death will not deter the staff of Radio Niger, rather they should strive to follow his footsteps. The state council stressed that the only way to immortalize late Sunday Abraham, especially in Radio Niger, was to uphold his attributes of simplicity, honesty, hard work, love for one another, togetherness and above all, fear of God.”

The council then prayed to God to comfort the bereaved family, entire journalists in the state, staff and management of Radio Niger as well as grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest.
