Amuludun 99.1 FM, being the first Yoruba- only speaking radio station in Nigeria, located at Moniya Ibadan was established on 10th October, 2007 and commenced transmission in pure and undiluted Yoruba language on 22nd October, 2007 Amuludun FM. It has the appellation “O Tawonyo” meaning “Stand Out”. Bandwidth/Coverage Area Amuludun FM Station has a bandwidth of 99.1MHz in the frequency modulated band. The coverage area is Ibadan metropolis and environs. Mandate and Achievement of set Target Before year 2007, it was conspicuously observed that the three major cultures in Nigeria, the Yoruba speaking area did not have a language radio station to tend to their tradition and social culture values.   History of Radio Broadcasting In Nigeria The relay of the British empire service broadcast from Daventry, England by Lagos in 1932, marked the inception of Broadcasting in Nigeria. In 1936, the first Radio distribution service (RDS) ; Rediffusion was opened in Lagos. The Radio service distributed British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC London) programmes. The Federal Government established the Nigeria Broadcasting Service (NBS) On April 1, 1951. In 1952, the existing Radio Distribution Service formed the foundation of the new NBS, with its headquarters in Lagos. A motion was introduced in the parliament on August 23, 1954 calling for the establishment of a corporation to take over activities of the Nigeria Broadcasting Service due to the spate of criticism from the press and the public that NBS was a government mouthpiece.
